I designed these tables for Cairo Kitchen’s branch in Point 90 and my inspiration for the project as a whole came from Cairo’s street cafés. Taking my lead directly from the typical ‘tarabezet el qahwa’ (coffee table), I wanted to pay homage to the settings we often see around the city’s streets. With wooden tops and sturdy metal bases, I rescaled the original design in order to make it more sturdy.
Taken from the restaurant’s glass façade, the turquoise I chose for the finish was reused in the upholstery, cushions and seating throughout the space, creating continuity and brightening up the overall atmosphere.
